Overview

Inside Historic Downtown Los Angeles

Our guides offer an eye popping stroll through the nation's largest contiguous collection of historic architecture and filming locations. See where films like Bladerunner, Spider-man and Independence Day were filmed. A 'must-do' for anyone interested in architecture or film.

Discover Historic Los Angeles Your guide will take you on a journey of time travel through 1930's Los Angeles including a visit to America's largest 'Historic Theatre District', Grand Central Market (a European styled food hall), Los Angeles Central Library (flashpoint of the preservation movement in LA) and Clifton's Cafeteria (an inspiration for Disneyland). Because downtown Los Angeles also has the largest concentration of historic architecture in America it is often used as a movie set for turn-of-the-century New York or Chicago.

Waste no time - In 1-hour & 30-minutes guides will personally escort you directly to an array of hidden and historic landmarks in Downtown LA including the Bradbury Building (oldest building in the central city), Grauman's Million Dollar Theatre (the oldest surviving movie palace in America), the Biltmore Hotel (birthplace of the Academy Awards) and the Edison Building (first all electrified building in America) plus much more. Along the way guides offer narration on the history of Los Angeles and movie making plus the stars that helped shape Hollywood.

Hear us! Red Line Tours offers you a 21st Century experience with the ultra high-tech 'Live Audio' hearing system. Each visitor wears a "walkman-like" headset receiver while your guide wears a headset microphone. Visitors control the volume of the guide along the way, drowning out street noise - especially helpful for the hearing impaired. (This is NOT a pre-recorded tour)

Spot a star - Downtown is the world's largest backlot with film shoots happening nearly every day in Downtown. Our guides will offer hints on places one would mostly likely spot a film shoot and a movie star. Films shot here more recently include 'Spider-man', 'Swat', 'Independence Day', 'Speed' and 'Terminator 3'
